Vorlin my friend, you're guilty of looking at the housing market from only one viewpoint. Consider, if you will:

I'm Joe Homebuyer. I need a house but have limited income. Interest rates are now at an all time low (to stimulate this "Horrid" economy), and plenty of houses are up for sale, with new ones being built all the time.

Odds are I'm gonna get a HUGE bang for my buck, and 10 years down the line when I decide to move I'll make money on the sale of my home (fluctuation of our cyclic economy - interest rates go up, home prices rise, new builds decrease).

So right now it's buyer's heaven. Bout freakin time, it was seller's heaven for 16 years across Reagan and Clinton's presidencies respectively.

In regards to the economy, I'll add this for everyone:

The economy isn't necessarily sucky everywhere. Here in the land of Podunk...OIL RICH Podunk I might add, the economy is booming. How can I tell? Easy - My hotels stay full every night with construction crews and yankees moving down here for jobs. We're making money hand over fist around these parts and jobs are plentiful, and the oil wells are digging deeper, and deeper...

For now at least, a petroleum price spike was just the ticket to make Podunk boom. (now if I could *just* get that raise out of my boss...)

Same here...The Dallas economy, so far, has remained pretty steady. Then again, it's Texas...We're always operating as if we were our own country.

Lucky for you two....jobs here are very scarce, there is no natural energy source to gather like oil, tech jobs are even worse, and the housing market is trashed over here. It might be a buyer's heaven, but for what cost? Low interest rates just to stimulate the market a bit? That's just like when that whole tax break came out and people got 300 bucks or 600 bucks in "free" money but there's always a cost. I'm already looking to move back down to Florida where I know the economy is much better because it sure isn't here. I'm glad there are places that have a booming economy and the job market is good. Just realize, you're both guilty of looking at the situation through one eye, just like was said of me, although I never said it was like this all over. I just know what's around here, and it's not getting better anytime soon.

Question: Is it true that Texas can *technically* succeed from the USA any time it so chooses. Additionally, may it also divide into 5 different states at any given time as well?

No.

The political classes will continue to plot how to part you from your money and keep you in quiet servitude.

Expect to see an adoption of the UK benefit system where the plan is that the Gov takes ALL your money and lets you have back what it thinks you should have. For reference this is the tax credit system and is fucking up millions of low earners and unemployed. It actively discourages improvement and advancement.

Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan will continue to bubble. Troop numbers will decrease but the US and the UK will never pull out from these countries completely. The War on Terrorism will never end it's too convenient a threat and useful for pushing through unpopular legislation. Notice how everything that people might not like gets given an antiterrorism spin?
Threats will never go away now.

Bring on the revolution!

Harb: Yes and Yes, although the 5 state division won't ever happen because nobody wants to give up the Alamo.

Scary fact: Texas didn't join the US, the US joined Texas. (We never applied for statehood, we were asked. Our Republic leaders decided at the time that it'd be nice to have three less borders to patrol, so we relented.). We are still very much a sovereign nation according to our state constitution, and can indeed secede from the United States without fear of reprisal at any time. In fact, we've come quite close to seceding 3 different times since the US Civil war, and once (in the mid 1980's) the movement to secede was very nearly successful (lost by 10 votes).

This is my opinion.

McCain is counting on Obama not being elected cause he is black. I believe this to be true in the southern states (except Florida McCain will win Florida because the control process that got Bush Florida will be tapped again to guarantee McCain gets Florida)

I made bank on the sub prime mortgage scheme. Anyone who made $70k a year and actually took a $500k Mortgage was a fucking idiot. I re financed my home three times. In the end on a house I bought 7 years ago, I now owe less than 80k at fixed 3.375% The original purchase price was 250k

Unemployment. Ya know I'm really tired of hearing functional illiterates complaining about jobs going over seas. They can barley spell their own names - can't read, and make $80k to press a button an average of 20 hours a week. To make maters worse, your company is in financial turmoil and you threaten to strike. shut the whole place down hurting not only yourselves, but your employer, it's vendors and suppliers, their employees and families. Smooth move.

If you are educated, have some experience and good work ethics. No such thing as unemployment.

So it really doesn't matter what happens after the election. Just remember to take care of yourself cause the government will NOT.
