Google in the dark

The place to kick back, relax, post general bullshit, and grill a few on the BBQ. Whatever doesn't fit into another forum would go here. We periodically go through and move posts to the correct forum, but we do charge a case of Beer every time we have to.

Just a lil' bigger than my 22" wide screen, it would appear.

There's a link on the Google page to "Earth Hour" which explains what it's about:

Sure thing.

It's hilighting awareness of a worldwide energy conservation effort and inviting everyone to turn off their lights between 8pm and 9pm (local time) this evening. It mentions that the UK's carbon footprint is over 500 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. There's a further link:

Earth Hour ..like most of the GW Discussion is based on Emotional thoughts rather than Hard facts.

A lot o the emotional propaganda regarding "Reducing CO2 Footprint" relies on pictures of some endangered animal, and the comment your standby power is stealing my home.

OK During the Earth Hour.. Many people would have lite up a candle.. so how much CO2 is produced from that, many people would have found their way around with battery powered lanterns/lamps.. how much CO2 was produced during the manufacture or charging of the batteries?
After Earth hour had finished, many of the industrial/commercial sites re-powered their Sodium or mercury vapour lamps...how much extra CO2 was produced as a result of these starting.. these things chew Max Power during the first half hour and is more than they consume in the next 3-4 hours combined. Offices would have had their lights out, but their PC's would have been in standby, and their servers running, prolly as much if not way more power consumed than the ousted lights..

GW proponents will gladly label a product with its CO2 Footprint while in use, and even its production Footprint... but try the same with supposedly GW Friendly items?

What strikes me is the light leakage from any one of Australia's major Sports stadiums would exceed the power usage of many small towns.. there should be the start of the next green hour..

Another Visual Stunt, so some bloody dumb greens can feel warm and fuzzy..
.. The trouble with life is there's no background music..
