blown ANOTHER fecking PC

The place to kick back, relax, post general bullshit, and grill a few on the BBQ. Whatever doesn't fit into another forum would go here. We periodically go through and move posts to the correct forum, but we do charge a case of Beer every time we have to.

blown ANOTHER fecking PC

Post: # 72024Post DaFoxx

quietly going about my business
PC starts to play up, taking ages to do anything
then it freezes with just Outlook and Explorer 'running'

task manager took almost 5 minutes to come up

CPU @ 100 %
processes showing task manager responsible for 97% of it

decided to take a virtual look
opened up vision [a GUI of FPort from Foundstone ]
http://www.foundstone.com/index.htm?sub ... etools.htm

using the system details first, checking the display settings as the monitor was starting to go off and on

BIG clue there :P

vision said one setting
display settings were showing it as 800x600 with lowest # of colours too

just as I was going hmmm ...

fecker went pop

off to E Buyer for a new GPX card
and ANY sign of a giggler in this thread will be banned from the bar forthwith and with force :hysterical:

Pop goes the Foxx.

Bet he shoved half a pound of tuppeny rice and half a pound of treacle in it.

I love that song by Lords of Acid!

Normally, Foxx, loud pops that I've heard inside a box generally means either a power supply goes t*ts up or when I'm trying to connect a 4-pin male to a 4-pin female while it's on and it blows out that segment, generally crashing the machine...

Yah, pop is usually PS or the crt monitor dying. If it was the PS, there'll be a bad smell when you put your nose to the fan grille - that'd be the wonderful smell of burnt insulation.

It's damn near impossible to put the smoke back in 'em once you let it out, isn't it?

no no.. you just need the correct funnel and a special cork.. I use one with a high tin lead content...

hehe guys
all back, got a new GeForce 7800, going cheap now, as opposed to the other one going pop :P

had to re-arrange things in the case, as it is a lot longer than the old FX 6600

but all good now, and the old problems have all gone, so the card had been failing for a while now :(

been reading Taz from work, not able to login though, so could see you all. but JEEZ the number of posts this site piles up when you are off a day or three

anyway, off to me pit, lots to do tomorrow :(
and back to work after that

I NEED a lottery win :P :)
