SUP?!

The place to kick back, relax, post general bullshit, and grill a few on the BBQ. Whatever doesn't fit into another forum would go here. We periodically go through and move posts to the correct forum, but we do charge a case of Beer every time we have to.

I'm waiting on stuff to build and figured I'd stop by and say hey!

it sucks...
much much less free time than being a student.
now when I drink, I want to goto sleep...
Also, theres a fuck ton more bills to pay, and rent is like 5 times more than I was paying in Blacksburg :(

The only good thing is I [currently] have the weekends to myself, no projects or school work hanging over my head.
But I'm sure that will change as deadlines that business development promises (without asking for *any* input) approach

Do we tell him about the "rollouts" you know the ones that are a simple hardware swap out or the simple software upgrade.. you know the ones that your manager tells you will take 2 to 6 hours.. and you get how much sleep over the long weekend?
Or you go to an office to do a simple PC swapout, to discover 4 Government departments in the one office.. they hate each other and the personal politics are worse.. and you say "hi" to the wrong person first.
OR.. you do a call to a Mom and Pop business.. to remove some "Bug".. Mom spots your discovery of pops "Prawn" collection.. pop gets tired of the nagging.. there is a semi-automatic tyre lever nearby..

and those are the fun times..

Ahhh the real world...

Waitaminnit....

There's a REAL WORLD? WTF? Why wasn't I informed of this? Oh wait, I was - it was used to threaten me all through my teenage years ("just wait until you get out into the REAL WORLD blahblahblah") - then it was used to intimidate me in my college and Navy years (same quote as before). Now it's just a figment of my imagination. I don't live in the REAL WORLD and I seriously wonder if one actually exists - MY world is encompassed with work, eat, sleep, computer gaming, and female chasing - and it's definitely unreal.

So back to my original (postwhoring intended) (one-line intended) (yes I blathered on because I'm delerious from lack of sleep) statement...

There's a REAL WORLD? WTF? Why haven't I ever encountered this phenomenon?

Another great thing about the real world...
You get in trouble when you work on another project that you have been assignment too...
You also get in trouble if you do not work on that other project...

Yeah, working on another project "threatens somebody else's job". Corporate politics. They don't like stuff like that cuz even if you can do it better or streamline an existing process, that doesn't make it right b/c you could be threatening somebody else's job. Keep your head down and all that.

Glad to see you're figuring stuff out, outters!

Lessee, how about the project that you get assigned to, timeline, deadlines, milestones, scheduled reporting dates to management, dire consequences if the project fails, all that. Except someone forgot to fund the hardware, software and engineering that would be required for project success. And, of course, it's all _your_ fault, now.

Or, how about the whole "cross functional team" approach, and your bosses are all preaching the chapter and verse of it. You lead a team to the point of a model cross-functional team presentation for a really worthwhile project. Management: "Oh, we really didn't mean we wanted you to actually ... "

Management == bunch of folks with MBAs (from prestigious schools, of course) and such who live in abject terror that they will be discovered as complete frauds, and they see the staff and workers in the organization as their potential exposers.
Rapier57.

Jayne: Testing. Testing. Captain, can you hear me?
Mal: I'm standing right here.
Jayne: You're coming through good and loud.
Mal: 'Cause I'm standing right here.
