Online Jobs: Are they all Scams?

The place to kick back, relax, post general bullshit, and grill a few on the BBQ. Whatever doesn't fit into another forum would go here. We periodically go through and move posts to the correct forum, but we do charge a case of Beer every time we have to.

Online Jobs: Are they all Scams?

OK...been seriously considering trying to supplement my income with an online job...but are there any that are legit?

Besides Tech Support...I know Leaf has an online Tech Support job ...but that, as everyone here is well aware, is something I can't do...well, I could do it, but I'd be pissing off a lot of people on hold as I post questions and wait for replies :D

So are there legitimate online jobs for someone outside of tech support? Where are they? And which do you recommend?

Well avoid the "supplement your income using your computer" ads. I read an article a few weeks ago where they tried various different types of this work. None of it was a scam as such, they did get paid, but they were only earning pennies an hour.

Unfortunately Eg I think you'll find most of this sort of teleworking will be telesales style.

Either that or you'll have to do the "Egman hairy sex" premium rate line ;)

What line of work are you interested in?

It says here you're currently a charity coordinator - if you are adept with project management, maybe you could start your own business. It beats having to work for someone else - when you're an employee, the business makes enough to pay you, continue to operate and make a profit. When you work for yourself, it's the only time you get paid the full value of your work.

Things you can do remotely: tech writing, editing, project management and custom web design.

These are generally temporary jobs and you can set up to hire out independently, or with an online group. Not sure what hoops you have to jump through in the Great White North to establish yourself as a business, but that makes the most sense. Set up a web page offering your services, then vet your potential clients before signing any agreements.

Eg,

Check out getafreelancer.com
(If you don't mind, use this link instead http://www.getafreelancer.com/affiliates/Outerlimit/ so I can get some affiliate credit :))
I did several jobs in there a little over a year ago.

There are jobs for SEO stuff, and various places looking for people to write articles on their blogs, etc.

Well..right now I co-ordinate the activities of Charities...and my own registered Charity...mostly from home via phone/fax/e-mail. I don't actually raise any funds myself ...I just co-ordinate everything and provide the opportunities to raise funds.

Been working in various capacities with various Charities for decades...both paid and volunteer positions.

So...I'd probably be interested in something along the line of what I do now...public relations.

Did, and used your link :D...something might turn up there but from what I see it's mostly tech...unless they want a one-finger typer who doesn't even know what all the buttons on the keyboard is for...then I qualify :D

Keep an eye out, people post their shit in as many categories as possible, practically defeating the point of the categories, but I'd look around in the those data-entry places, they are generally people looking for someone to write blog entries and stuff.

Thanks for using my link :)
