I have every reason in the world

Yep, it's true, I have every reason in the world to quit smoking at this time: I'm living a relatively stress-free life now that the former Mrs|ce is out of the picture, I'm working a nice, stable job that pretty much involves me sitting on my butt all day, and my health needs improving anyway...

SO here we go - starting at Midnight tomorrow night I will smoke no more, cold turkey. Wish me luck - and y'all make bets on when I restart (But if I don't I get to keep the loot!).

I'm not stopping until tomorrow night because I still have to get my furniture out of her house tomorrow (noon to 4:30pm court-ordered) - so stress is looming on that end.

Besides, tonight the Boss's 4 year old daughter confronted me in the parking lot..

"|ce, are you smoking?" she asks, one hand on her hip and the other pointing at me, a very serious gleam in her eyes.

"Yes" I replied, somewhat sheepishly since I knew what was coming.

"NO, NO!" she says, puts the second hand on her hip and stomps her foot, then resumes her play with her Grandpa and little brother.

There you have it folks, a damn good reason to quit - a kid asked me to. Out of the mouths of babes...

All the best.. when making a change.. your worst enemies are your best friends and Family.

Best is to replace a habit with another.. eg: Chew Gum or pussy... great stress busters..

Well, last time I tried quitting, I gave chewing pussy a shot. I got fur in my teeth and severely clawed about the face and neck, bitten squarely on my nose, and the cat refused to ever again be picked up by me, so that's out...

Maybe pussy flavoured gum?

Cold turkey is the way to do it apparently and with as little planning as possible.

If you make a snap decision to do it this is the brain's statement that you are ready.

My old man did it cold turkey before I was born but he's reserves of will power I can only dream of.

It may be a hard sacrifice |ce, but try to avoid the beer, I know that may sound ludicrous, but while one is quaffing down an ale, the other hand wants to hold a cigarette....been there and done that, it's been 10yrs to the Month since I quit after smoking for over 25+ yrs...

You can do it.....think deep thoughts... and good luck seriously..... 8)

Actually the whole beer thing isn't a bad suggestion... Most of my friends who smoke tell me that the numerous times they have tried have always failed when they drank... they said its a hard feeling to explain, but a beer in one hand and a fag in the other "just is right" I think only smokers will understand that and not being one i certainly don't ;)

However here's some encouragement for you... another friend of mine made that desicion to go clold turkey... he was doing really well and was telling me how gradually things were tasting better and he didn't have to wash clothes as much etc and then 3 months in he fell of... I caught him lighting a fag.... then the amazing happened, he took one drag and spat it out... he said he was drunk and it was the first for 3 months, he took one puff and said suddenly the taste was over poweringly awful... he hasn't smoked now for 4 years!

Good luck mate, fingers crossed for you!

Good luck |ce!

I agree with Panama... may want to avoid beer, or drinking all together for awhile.
I always have the hardest time not lighting a cigarette when I'm drinking.

I was able to quit, although I still don't know if I'd say I've quit myself... I still have cigarettes in my car and at some in my laptop bag...
I probably would have smoked one this morning had they not been in the back of the car.
Probably would smoke more often at work if I wouldn't be the ONLY smoker.
Its a tough decision, what seems to have helped me is to tell myself that I can have one whenever, but honestly not WANTING to smoke because I know its better not too...

Anyway, best of luck to ya!

Not going to get evangelical on your ass here Eg, but err economics come to mind...(Remember I used to buy mine up until 1993 at a $1.00 a pack or $8.00 a carton, they were duty frees, but some health nut figured to get sailors to quit, make them pay market price...it worked...Lol...)...

I can't see ever going back to paying almost $10.00 per pack now....wallet couldn't handle it....

for me it was time to stop because the smoke made me feel sick when I was drinking, and I decided I preferred to drink, more than I wanted to smoke.............

but at todays prices in UK arond £6 a pack [$12 US]
Eg is burning up a LOT of cash

'even' at £5 a pack, it comes to over 5 THOUSAND GB£'s a year

and that is a LOT of pennies
