Apparently (I've not read them myself) there are gospels that were missed out of the new testament that don't have Mary as a virgin.
The also have an adolescent Jesus changing his friends into goats for a laugh.

They missed it out because it wasn't believable. The bible was written by a committee of men to say what they wanted. And then was redrafted to suit the politics of various epochs.

God, for Christians, which is being assumed is the God in the bus message, is the same God as Muslims. As per human nature they only argue over the small details.

Didn't 'an eye for an eye' get turned into 'turn the other cheek' somewhere along the line too?

IIRC that would be in the dead sea scrolls..

Again IIRC, the bible as we know it today was put together somewhere in the 5th century. Big parts were left out because they didn't fit their ideas.. Was was left out was destroyed, or so they thought (the dead-sea scrolls are believed to have survived this).

Edit: Actually they're not...

22. Although the Qumran community existed during the time of the ministry of Jesus, none of the Scrolls refer to Him, nor do they mention any of His follower's described in the New Testament.

If Jesus did things like turn his friends into goats for a laugh, I would find the myth much more plausible. One of my chief complaints is not simply a rational one against metaphysics, but a moral one in that Jesus offered/proved/satisfied nothing.

I have always prefered the Old Testament God because of the distinct humanity to it. The New Testament God is clearly just a fabrication of a faerie tale bedtime story. I doubt that the introduction of a source giving Jesus humanistic qualities would even dent my beliefs, but it would add an interesting dynamic and probably remove one of my primary theological disagreements with the entire concept.

Oh btw. One of my Sunday School teachers (I was raised Catholic) said that The Virgin Mary was only a virgin when Jesus was born. After that, it would be exceedingly unrealistic to assume that her and Joseph didn't get busy even once. He said that the significance to her wasn't in being a virgin for eternity, but being one at the time of conception and delivery.

But it "probably" won't stop those Christians from thinking this is a setup of the prince of darkness himself
As a Christian, I would've looked at the bus, gone "Hmm...ok..." and gone right back to whatever I was doing at the time. I've got better things to do than chase down buses that have things printed on them I don't agree with. :P
My personal opinion is that there would be millions more people alive if there was never any mention of God, Allah and all the rest of them
Ya know, I've been hearing this argument a lot lately, but I think it's missing the root cause. People are pissed at religion and that's all fine and well, but do you really think taking away religion would fix it?

No, they'd just find something else to go kill everybody over senselessly for. In my humble opinion, religion is the excuse. It's not so much that religion sucks, but that people suck. Ridding religion from the world would just shift the "great cause" to something else for everybody. Religion only sucks when the religious people behind it suck.

i.e. As long as I'm hell-bent on being better than you, I'm going to look for an excuse to get rid of you.

Me, not having such stated ambition, am thus religious, and have no desire to go to war with anybody whatsoever.

Religion as a whole sucks. Churches argue and split over stupid things, people kill each other over disagreements, and in lesser cases people use it as an excuse to say they are better than someone else. Religion as an institution really does suck. If you read the by-laws of any religious institution, they often contrast sharply with the principles in the text they claim to hold to.

That being said, I believe faith is a good, healthy, and rational thing.

Just for the record, I had nothing to do with this.
But I do.

Btw EG, you're taking it too far. Jesus is just an astrological anthropromorphication that became twisted by generation after generation of slightly altered fables.

The buses launch today. They aimed for one, they got 800.

Pretty decent response from many prominent Christian groups welcoming the debate etc, nothing mentioned from other religions.

Haha, you'll *never* see anything like "There is no Allah"...I'd love to have a sign on my car that says something like "I use the rock at Mecca as a doorstop" or something similar.

Atheists know Allah means God, it's the same bleeping thing..
Supreme being or whatever you want to call it :tongue1:

The only difference would indeed be more violent, even if you added the word "probably"
Paul Woolley, director of the religious think tank Director of Theos, said: "We think that the campaign is a great way to get people thinking about God. The posters will encourage people to consider the most important question we will ever face in our lives.
Why would "God" be important to me, in my life, if I don't believe in it?
