Re: Game for electronics Engineers

I never understood the layers in semiconductors before - I knew what they were and vaguely what they did but with this it is becoming much more clear to me now. I still have a long ways to go though...I'm still experimenting to see what can be done and how it all works by playing with everything bef...

Re: Neat math trick

In the windows calculator you can also do it with * if you want to square a number.
+/- also works to increment/decrement by that number

My HP calculator uses RPN so this trick doesn't quite work...

Re: What Does A $16,000+ PC Look Like, Anyway?

That's interesting that the radiator is on the outside. I guess they didn't want the person spending $16,000 to have to clean anything inside of the case. And yeah, spending $16,000 it better do more than a normal computer so I sure hope that it keeps clean. It would be awesome if it were sealed and...

I looked up the research paper with my university account, and it seems that a diamond-anvil cell was used.

Re: Old games for an old machine

I have a Radeon 9800 lying around...probably the only AGP card I have on hand that is better than the Nvidia FX5200 (at least I think it should be better - the Nvidia FX line was low end and the ATI 9800 was a relatively high-end card at the time). I'd be fine with letting it go if we can figure out...

Re: Comcast in Tucson streams porn over superbowl

So after this wardrobe, err., streaming malfunction...all live-delayed television must be prerecorded and put on DVD and played back with a padlock on the disk drive so that these sorts of things won't happen again? :?

Re: I'm Crazy!

I'm surprised Rapier57 hasn't chimed in at all. In our neck of the woods you can't help but run into people who have worked at Redmond or Micron. And if they didn't do either of those, they've probably done some work in networking for a WISP, pulling fiber, or perhaps working with HV power transmiss...

Harb and I knew why a question was being asked, so we complied and didn't think too hard about it. We got shit done, and had way too much time to play around on the school network... The one time we went overboard on class project we managed to get the better part of an inventory control/tra...

I just bought parts to upgrade my workstation...I sure hope that desktop and workstation computers are not going extinct! Long live the desktop!

Also, when you spill your beer on one you usually just need to get a new keyboard...try that with a laptop! Well, don't actually...

Re: Should America Adopt the Metric Sysyem?

I'm working on a NASA project for my college where we've had various people say we should work with SI, or we should work with IP (US). Some of our customer's targets are specified in metric units, while others are in US customary units. Basically all of the scientific goals have metric targets, whi...
