Re: Poverty Sucks

Well, poverty still sucks. But, I’m doing OK. The last six years have seen me write and publish three young adult/teen novels, move to Spokane, WA, and get a Harley-Davidson. No, I’m not getting rich from the books, but getting some notoriety. Wife’s parents both passed away and she and her sisters ...

Re: Patch or ditch Adobe Flash

Ditch it. And ditch Java Runtime, as well, if you can. I've been running without Adobe Flash for some years now and not missing it at all. Of course, I no longer use Windows. Not even in a virtual. I took Java Runtime off my Mac some time ago, as well. If you run current browsers and OS's, you don't...

Re: What if you were zapped to the Dark Ages?

Good points, Dino. I'm a vet, too, with all the vaccinations. So, you may be correct on that account.

Re: What if you were zapped to the Dark Ages?

Don't know about you guys, but I grew up Roman Catholic. I was an (unabused) altar boy. I learned Latin. While I don't speak it, I can still sing the liturgy (in fine voice, too). I would be able to get along fine in that regard. Still, a priority would be to get the basics, food, clothing, shelter....

An overview of Heartbleed -- the OpenSSL bug

Here is an overview of the Heartbleed bug by my friends at IOActive: http://blog.ioactive.com/2014/04/bleeding-hearts.html The current recommendation is that you change your passwords to online services that are or may be affected by this bug. One such service, LastPass, is recommending changing the...

And, it's another Adobe product

Citroen hacked via backdoor in Adobe Cold Fusion. As article points out, Brian Krebs found a cache of stolen Cold Fusion code in the hands of bad guys last year. http://www.tripwire.com/state-of-security/top-security-stories/adobe-coldfusion-hackers-hit-citroen/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twi...

Re: Flash, Again

OK, that looks pretty straightforward. Simple code. With all the security issues surrounding Flash, Shockwave and other products, why don't responsible service providers just use HTML5 and embedded codecs?

Oh, yeah, the key word is "responsible."

Flash, Again

One major problem with Facebook when accessed from the desktop browser is the reliance on Adobe Flash. Adobe recently had to release an out of cycle patch to plug what is called a 0-day exploit. Today, they released another couple of patches to fix more vulnerabilities. http://www.networkworld.com/n...

Re: Apple SSL flaw

One security dude who is currently attending RSA posted a rant a couple days ago complaining about Apple coders using "goto" in program if-statement stanzas. Problem is, goto's are prevalent throughout most languages. And they are explicit or implied. You either use the word goto (explicit), or just...

Apple SSL flaw

Friday we got the notification that Apple released an update to iOS, so I ran the update on the devices we have that run 7.x iOS. I then found out that it addressed a code issue in the SSL code, called "goto fail" and that is also exists in OSX. The flaw affects SSL when the device or OSX system com...
