Re: SO, we finally got some snow
we DID have a real bad winter in 1963 :P 100 consecutive days when temperature didn't get above freezing, and it snowed almost every day too That same year we had an Elfstedentocht that's still considered to be the most epic edition. The weather was terrible, of the 10.000 participants that started...

Re: SO, we finally got some snow
It's icy cold down in the low countries too. There's a high pressure system "stuck" somewhere above Scandinavia. That means the wind is blowing from Siberia across land towards us. Although the actual temperature is around -5C it feels like it's -15C. The wind just cuts right through you. I've seen ...

Re: the US and gun control
Yeah, fighting gun violence by introducing even more guns :-/ And if they have armed teachers, what's stopping a teacher from blowing a fuse and start shooting students? Or, a teacher in trying to shoot an assailant, misses and kills an innocent bystander? Oh, and don't forget about that other scape...

Re: I don't know where to post this
That's probably the dumbest thing I've seen in years. What kind of ID-ten-T puts their entire SQL query in a GET method?

Re: What if you were zapped to the Dark Ages?
Piss is a good resource, I got plenty of that  Iron is available. But it might not be strong enough though. I saw a documentary recently that said they made steel just by adding poo, leather and some charcoal powder to the iron and heating it. The iron absorbs the carbon which creates steel...

Re: What if you were zapped to the Dark Ages?
Yeah, I think Latin is pretty much the only language we'd be able to speak. English, Dutch, German and probably a few others were quite different compared to the language now. Raw materials should be plentiful. In Holland I'd be able to get coal and perhaps salt. I don't think we have interesting mi...

Re: What if you were zapped to the Dark Ages?
Hmm, I hadn't thought about language. Even if I would get zapped to Dark Age Holland I probably wouldn't be able to understand a single word. Maybe I should brush up on my Latin so I could at least talk to a priest or monk and ask for clothes :) But barring that, I think I've seen enough Bear Grylls...

What if you were zapped to the Dark Ages?
It's a little mind game I like to play from time to time. Suppose you were instantly zapped back and you found yourself there, naked (you can't bring any "modern" stuff). How would a 21st century, educated engineering, man (or woman) cope in the Dark Ages (lets say around the 10th century)? I alread...

Re: Flash, Again
but with 8 out there, and 9 announced, just how long will 7 last anyway ? I do not see any more 12 year OS's I actually think 7 will outlive 8. That Metro/Modern UI, or whatever the hell it's called, might work really nice on a tablet or a phone but if your face is a couple of inches from a 29" 192...

Apple isn't the only one that screwed up. It seems GnuTLS isn't doing things correctly either.

Re: Super Bowl Sunday
Today is the highlight of the American Football season. Not that sissy soccer everyone else plays, but the smash-mouth football the US plays. Yeah. GO SEAHAWKS! Bring it on. is that the one where they all wear enough cushions to save them grazing their knees if they trip over ? :hysterical: The sis...
